Design Breakdown Of A Bar Stool.

Orange upholstered barstool with wooden base

These brilliant bar stools are from Opera Grill in Chester.

Firstly, the base plate. Needs to be a heavy metal for stability, and it’s black to cater for the wear and tear of peoples feet being all over it, plus it makes the rest of the stool take the attention.

Now, I’ve already spoke to the stool and it’s not body conscious 😂, so it doesn’t mind me saying that it has a FAT base, and what a FAT base it is! Construction wise it has to be ‘chubby’ because it’s made out of wood, so more strength and support is needed under the seat to provide solid support and prevent it from rocking. How good does turned wood look, I’m sure you love it like me 🤪. The turned wooden base here looks unbelievable and really gives the entire stool proper character, staining the wood too shows off its natural characteristics, but also it compliments the colour of the seat upholstery.

The cross section iron foot rest is positioned to provide comfort so your little legs aren’t just dangling there. Like the base plate it’s painted black to handle the traffic of people using it and again helps the main features of the base and the seat stand out.

The seat 🤩. Couldn’t tell you why it’s orange apart from the fact that it’s a colour that grabs your attention and isn’t too big of a tonal contrast with the amount of wood in the space. I can tell you though that it has a thick reclined back to provide comfort and encourage longer stays and it’s upholstered with leather because it’s a hard wearing material. Also, reading about the history of the building and how it became a car garage after world war 1 until around the time of world war 2, I’d say the back of the seat is inspired by car seats.
